Billing issueFrom: Henry Gregor (henrygregor@yahoo.com)Fri Jan 28 17:12:10 2005
Gary, Without "waiting" to ask an opinion of my office staff who handle accounts, after reading the other comments, I'm of a mind to agree readily that a hundred dollars is a small figure for good will. I share your concern re creating an appearance of acknowledgement of wrongdoing. Might it not be possible to communicate to the patient that your practice has (correctly by the details reported) no insight into what or was not said or committed to by your ex associate? You could share the positive PR viewpoint that nevertheless the practice does not want her to suffer any inconvenience secondary to the admininstrative mixup that occurred by virtue of the former physician's failure to follow through on the insureance and business details, and offer to absorb the amount in question, with a mutual understanding and communication that such an offer in no way akncowledges an admission of error by the practice. II'd talk to her myself rather than through a staffer. I'd follow that with a written confirmation, in appropriately noninflammatory language.Having an attorney look at the wording would help me sleep better at night. I'm betting a legal person could accomplish the appropriate level of disclaiming of guilt/responsibility/etc in some very gentle, non legalese style that wouldn't offend the recipient. Hank Yahoo! The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
