Re: MacrosomiaFrom: Braun, R. Daniel (rbraun@iupui.edu)Thu Jan 20 07:49:01 2005
That is about 16.5 #. The largest baby that I have seen delivered weighed 17# 1 oz or about 7.75 Kg. That baby was delivered vaginally with low forceps and had a shoulder dystocia in about 1967. The baby had an Erb's when it went home 2 weeks later. I have no further knowledge of its long term outcome. Dan R. Daniel Braun, MD "If everyone likes you, you're doing something wrong." Woman gives birth to giant baby Straits Times ^ | 1/20/05 | AP Posted on 01/19/2005 6:32:51 PM PST by mylife Jan 20, 2005 Woman gives birth to giant baby SAO PAULO - A woman in north-eastern Brazil has given birth to what one doctor called a 'giant baby', a boy weighing 7.57kg. Mrs Francisca Ramos dos Santos, 38, gave birth to the healthy boy named Ademilton on Tuesday at a hospital in Salvador, north-east of Sao Paulo. He was the largest baby born at the Albert Sabin Maternity Hospital in its 12-year history, the hospital said. 'Obviously the baby was born by Caesarean section,' hospital director Rita Leal said. 'Both mother and baby are doing just fine.' 'Ademilton could truly be considered a giant baby, for he was born weighing what a six-month-old-baby normally weighs,' pediatrician Luiz Sena Azul told the Correio da Bahia newspaper. Mrs Santos has four other children - ages nine, 12, 14, and 15 - who were born weighing between 3.5kg and 5kg. 'She knew Ademilton would be a big baby, but not this big,' Ms Leal said. 'She, her husband and the hospital staff were caught by surprise.' The average weight for newborns in Brazil is 3.5kg for boys and 3kg for girls. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1324314/posts art
