Garry I've just conducted a mini survey among several doctors and midwives and the consensus is that everyone DOES give antibiotics in this case. The reasons are 1. The beta-strep is often positive. 2. There's no harm in giving penicillin. 3. The pediatricians will treat the baby as a positive baby and will order all lab tests including blood cultures, mandate a 2 day stay and will start antibiotics with any slight deviation from normal.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
