Re: breech-breech at 33+4From: Garry E. Siegel, M.D. (garrys@mindspring.com)Mon Jan 17 16:28:08 2005
Richard: As they say in Alabama (where I trained), steroids do not turn chicken droppings into chicken salad. 34 week babies do well, and the steroids are only helpful in that regard. 34 week babies do need CPAP, umbilical artery lines, etc., if not ventilators, at times. The are not without morbidity, even though the mortality is basically that of a term baby. Why must you deliver her at all unless she forces your hand a bit more? What is your indication for this premature delivery? Prodromal labor/Preterm labor? I would hopsitalize, FWIW, and check her cervix every day or two, I suppose. You might buy a few more days. . .Obviously, she won't last too long, I bet, but who knows? Garry, the devil's advocate here. What do others think?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
