It would be an interesting study to rate the post-procedure discomfort after marsupialization versus Word catheter placement. (Of course, finding patients with bilateral Bartholin gland cysts so you could randomize might be kind of difficult). I perceive Word catheters as more uncomfortable, because even though you tuck them into the vagina, the ends tend to fall out, which may cause a pulling sensation. Either procedure should work fine. Unfortunately, many emergency room folks just incise and drain the cyst, which increases the chance of recurrence. Ashley

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
