The patient questions answered the more patient questions sent. Usually recommended to respond to patients off list

Looks like small, very short Foley catheter. Acts as a drain. One inserts the tip into the cavity, inflates the balloon, and leaves it in place for a few days to insure drainage and (one hopes), leave a permanent opening to the exterior so that cyst/abscess does not reform. In my experience the Word catheter works pretty well; wish they didn't fall out early so often.

Could someone please describe a Word catheter to me? Use in excision of Bartholin's cyst?

Thanks, Chris

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
