For the first time in 5 years, I was not on call on Christmas Eve or
Christmas, and won't be on call New Year's Eve or New Year's Day. The
last time I WAS on call, we admitted a primigravida at 19 weeks with
abdominal pain and fever, who at first appeared to have appendicitis,
which evolved over several hours to more resemble chorioamnionitis,
which eventually grew staph epi on ALL cultures, and may very well have
originated from endocarditis (pre-existing pulmonic stenosis and
unrepaired ASD). She was scheduled to have a TEE on Christmas Eve.
