Um, let's see. Bathroom three steps from the bed, with someone to help you get up and get there. Nice nursery nurses who would come in when you just finished feeding the ten-lb. baby and he is still screaming and they offer to take him to the nursery to entertain him so you can catch some much-needed zzzzz's (after being up all night in labor). People who will get you a glass of juice when you just push a button. Meals prepared for you and set right in front of you (and the food was actually pretty decent). Nice ladies who bring you a fresh gown and towels and put clean sheets on your bed while you take a shower. Baby in a bassinette that rolls right in next to your bed with diapers and wipes and everything on a shelf right underneath baby. And most of all, NO ONE asking you to do anything for THEM.

Don't forget, most women drop a coupla grams of Hgb in the process of giving birth. I felt MUCH more tired and wiped out when I got home than I did in the hospital.

I actually stayed three days after my first delivery (21 years ago, 10-lb. baby, big epis, uterine inversion, postpartum transfusion), two days with my second (only because on the day after the birth, my bed was on a truck, in transit to our new house, and my husband and a bunch of his buddies were in the process of moving all our stuff), and just overnight after the third, but I can certainly understand a woman needing to stay longer, ESPECIALLY after a c-sec.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
