GYN: Depo-Provera and prior PTEFrom: Garry E. Siegel, M.D. (garrys@mindspring.com)Mon Nov 29 10:27:18 2004
27 YO BP1011 is in for her 6 week postop visit from a C/S. She had a PTE on OCPs prior to pregnancy, and also has had a molar pregnancy requiring D and C/chemo (this is per history--no records). In this pregnancy, extensive thromobophilia workup negative, on Lovenox until near term, then heparin, and coumadin through 6 weeks. She needs effective contraception, and isn't at all interested in an IUD. I am having a senior moment here--isn't Depo-Provera OK with the history of PTE? Now, I know what the PDR says, but isn't reality that Depo is OK, or am I being forgetful? Garry

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
