I'm sorry to hear that this is such a problem in your area. In our practice most of the women requesting Bradley instruction go to the same instructor. She is wonderful. I have never had any problems with any of the women who have chosen her as an instructor. I have found that she is totally approachable and reasonable in her instruction as well as philosophy regarding childbirth and options. When I first came to this practice I made the point of meeting with her just to get some idea of what her teaching would be. I don't have any reservations about referring couples to her. Our patients range from a Medi-Cal group to the financially well off, the women with less than an 8th grade education to those with doctorates, women who wanted an epidural for conception to those that would like to birth in as low tech environment that a hospital can offer. A "one class fits all" concept would not work. I'm glad that we have options to offer and that all the options work well within our practice and hospital setting. Most of the doulas or labor assistants are Licensed Midwives, Bradley instructors, and Hypnobirth therapists from the area. We have worked with them for many many years. They are nothing but supportive and well educated. When a woman requests a referral for a birth assistant or doula I make sure that they know and understand the importance of employing someone who has worked with us in the past and understands the practices of the hospital as well as the individual CNMs in the group. What a ride!!!"

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
