Dean Huffman writes: I am worried that by giving so many patients ampicillin (our drug of choice) we might be treating some people unnecessarily, and possibly increasing the risk of producing resistant organisms in L&D or the NICU. We use penicillin or cleocin. I believe ampicillin has been reported to increase the chance of neonatal enterocolitis. Robert Modugno MD MBA FACOG Marietta, GA http://www.novaobgyn.yourmd.com

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
