Re: Cytotec vs. PrepidilFrom: Steve & Eryl Raymond (eryl@intekom.co.za)Thu Sep 16 22:40:35 2004
Cytotec is the only thing we use for ripening in first and second trimesters - 400 to 600 mcg inserted PV the night before a TOP. By definition you don't have to dilate a complete, incomplete, or inevitable abortion - the cervix is already dilated. For missed abortion it may sometimes be necessary to use a ripening agent and then we use Cytotec. Prepidil is ineffective for first trimester - it is Prostaglandin E2, in a dose which is applicable only to the term pregnancy. So your "Chief Department" is right and you will save a lot of money given that the cost of Prepidil is at least 100 times that of Cytotec. You have been wasting a lot of Euros. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
