What is useful, is that it is making somebody rich.

Bio-identical hormone treatment? Perhaps this is an old topic, but I am interested in everyone's opinion about the "bioidentical hormone" issues raised by the famous gynecologist, Suzanne Sommers. Isn't Prometrium, and topical estradiol "bioidentical"? I have had another wave of patients requesting testing and treatments. Many are going out of state for these tests and returning with treatments that I would have given them at their annual visit....I just don't call it "bio-identical". It wasn't something we used in my residency and I'm wondering if there isn't something useful to it as so many of my patients are spending a great deal of time, money and research efforts on this method of treatment for PMS and perimenopause...

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
