The induction rate in my area is about 30-40%. Higher if you count the women who are kept in false labor and "augmented" because the OB doesn't want to be inconvenienced by her during the night when she comes back in real labor. Very few will let a pregnancy go past 41 weeks, most will induce at 40+. Don't see a lot of 38 week social inductions, but there are some. There is usually a "medical" reason listed; previous fast labor, gestational diabetes, and the ever popular LGA. Rarely are they questioned by peers or nurses. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
