Re: Mammograms

Until yesterday, all my communications have been through the hospital coding department and the department manager for radiology - who wanted me to change my coding to allow billing for the diagnostic mammograms. I also spoke with two of our surgeons who have been frustrated by the same pressure. I finally got through yesterday to the radiologist who is over the mammography section. Fortunately, he agreed with me and the other physicians and said that screening views are all that is indicated and necessary unless new symptoms or findings warrant additional views and said he will take care of the problem.

Have you communicated your reservations with them? If so, what was their response?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
