My thoughts absolutely! And that is how I do it. I am a bit compulsive on making sure I have gone out of my way to get women in for colpos and cervical treatments - and the first follow up pap. Send certified letters etc.

Those that are to have a 6 month mammogram are put in for "appointments" with me on my day off the first week of the month they are to get - so they can be contacted. So there are some safeguards put in for this stuff.

But I agree - the PATIENT herself needs to decide whether or not she will do what is recommended.

The radiology dept here has a system - so that if they have read an abnormal mammogram and wantmore views now - or a 6 month follow up and it doesn't happen - I get a letter saying "Mary Jones was to have thus-and-such done and we have no record of that happening". The Cyto & Path labs do the same thing - if the Pap was abnormal and they don't get a biopsy.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
