We do have similar guidelines and Texas. I think I will send him a copy. Great idea

In CA I would have had to report both positives to the Health Department and they would have made sure the patient's partner/s were traced and treated. I would have treated both with Zithromax at the same time then done the test of cure. You should anonymously send the PCP a copy of the CDC recommendations/treatment guidelines for STDs.

I was recently referred a patient for an abnormal Pap smear. During colposcopy I performed a Gynprobe, which came back positive for both Chlamydia and gonorrhea. I treated patient, and recommended that her partner be treated by his primary care physician. When my patient came back for a test of cure she told me that her partner's primary care physician felt, based on history and absence of symptoms, said he had no reason to be treated; nor did he feel a diagnostic test was warranted.

After coming to my senses, was a little help of ammonia, I explain to the patient that this is probably not the best diagnostic design that I've ever heard of, and recommended that her partner be evaluated by another physician. However, am I missing something? Can we dispose of the Gynprobe, or is this something strictly male, or strictly family practice?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
