Re: fetal hiccupsFrom: art fougner, md (evsono@pipeline.com)Tue Apr 27 16:22:44 2004
The one reference from pregnancy institute references an article published by Jason Collins in 1994 in which a fetus was observed grasping the fetal cord. EFM revealed multiple variable decelerations. Fetal hiccups ensued on release of the cord - in other words, while the cord was NOT under tension. I have personally observed fetal hiccups on numerous occasions and have NOT seen any relation to variable decelerations nor associated with fetal grasping of the umbilical cord. An anecdote does not evidence make. art

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
