In the latest issue of The Lancet -

'Pregnancies that end as a spontaneous or induced abortion do not increase a woman's risk of developing breast cancer'

Pregnancies that result in a birth reduce a woman's long-term risk of developing breast cancer, but the effects of pregnancies that end as a spontaneous or induced abortion are less clear. The Collaborative Group on Hormonal Factors in Breast Cancer did a reanalysis of the worldwide epidemiological data to assess the possible relation between breast cancer and previous spontaneous and induced abortions. They found that, among women with a prospective record of having had a spontaneous or an induced abortion, the risk of breast cancer did not differ significantly according to the number or timing of either type of abortion.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
