Re: Forceps/VacuumFrom: ainsron (ainsron@sbcglobal.net)Tue Mar 16 14:32:09 2004
Did others challenge his recommendation, or are we expected to simply fall in line? I don't know Devoe or how he practices, but it is not hard to imagine that a attending physician would not have a problem writing a note that he agrees with the house staff's recommendation for forceps delivery, etc., etc, as they are doing the procedure and he watches or sips his coffee at the desk. In the real world, that is not how it flows. Ronald E. Ainsworth -----Original Message----- From: ob-gyn-l@obgyn.net [mailto:ob-gyn-l@obgyn.net] On Behalf Of Lynn D. A pre-forceps/vacuum note should be written that includes your estimated fetal weight, the fetal position (head orientation and station) and an outline of the consent. He stated as an example a recent case he had "participated in" where if the documentation had been included, the outcome of the case would have been different. Personally, I do the same as y'all. I obtain verbal informed consent, do the procedure and document thoroughly after... Lynn Lynn D. To break scrub to write a note would be a waste of time, especially if I'm doing it because of the development of a non-reassuring FHR pattern and feel that application of the vacuum can deliver the baby in a short period of time. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
