Re: ErythropoietinFrom: Joanne Bulley, MD (islesannie@yahoo.com)Sun Jan 25 11:10:15 2004
My dad is on it for the anemia of renal failure. Pretty impressive response in that situation. It is like a factory with all the supplies piled up but the machine isn't turned on. When you give the erythropoietin in that situation, the marrow turns on (it is healthy - unlike the chemo patient) and the count starts risiing immediately. I have to agree with John - if she has healthy bone marrow - just suppor her with the QID iron - and don't forget folic acid and B12 - hopefully she isn't a vegetarian witn no iron or B12 in her diet! The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
