HIPAA says that any health provider who is providing care to a patient can have access to the medical record - therefore names do not have to be deleted from the chart, or previous records! Many people have lost their common sense when it comes to HIPAA - their are more myths than realities. You may want to check out the FAQs about HIPAA on the CMMS website. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
