Re: Article-'Some Doctors Letting Patients Skip Co-PaymentsFrom: Joanne Bulley, MD (islesannie@yahoo.com)Sat Dec 27 16:44:14 2003
My office has a written policy (that they sign when filling out their info ang etting the HIPPA paper) that they HAVE to pay the co-pay at time of service. In addition to it being possible to charge us with fraud, many insurance companies even have a line that they can cancel the patient's insurance if they aren't paying the copays. I also charge a $5 (I think) service fee if they don't pay the copay that day. It is amazing how many run back to their car to get their purse or credit card. Before the policy and fee for billing - it was amazing (well ... not really) how many people came in and said "oh I forgot my purse" ... yeah right - women don't usually forget their purse when going out! They also forget to bring in their insurance card - then are mad when they get the bill for the visit because we didnt' have the right info! Joanne

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
