Re: Case / question to the list: PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR OPNIONSFrom: Brickster0@aol.comMon Dec 22 10:52:09 2003
Dear Brick: I would not think that after giving the patient appropriate ectopic precautions (call if you have pain, lightheadedness, etc.) that waiting 72 hours is outside the standard of care in this situation. Certainly it was great for you and the patient to establish an IUP the next day, but what would you have done if you hadn't found an IUP? Richard Kaplan, OB/Gyn Greensboro, NC ordered a stat Quant; My arguement was that you can't have too much information. The sono on Friday could have shown an IUP, new free fluid or have been unchanged, but if she ruptured on Saturday or Sunday, you're screwed. The quant could have gone up or down; the first quant could have been spurious. But if it can back at 5000 with no IUP i'm worried. Brick

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
