I firmly believe in universal screening. with this I have seen more ture positive HIV's that with the routine screening we do for syphilis. Even though the listed rates of new diagnoses through the NH Dept of Health lists more syphilis than HIV - the reverse is true in our practice. With the ability to cut the risk to the neonate by over 50% - it would be a gross error to not strongly encourage universal screening.

Then delivery is so fraught with various body fluids being ALL over the room and people - even using the best precaurtions - you might as well know what is in it! Hep B and HIV included.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
