If you are referring to "blod tests" showing postive for HSV - that confirms PAST infection - not a current infection. If you did a "TORCH" titer - you are only looking at the blood and a "positive" identification of HSV here - is only positive for HSV anitibodies - not active infection.

Pregnancy can and should continue if a woman has recurrent LESIONS (not blood test) - as the others stated - she may be given anitvirals (for example, acyclovir) in the third trimester to prevent viral shedding at the time of delivery.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
