Re: CounselingFrom: Richard D. Kaplan (rkaplan@triad.rr.com)Fri Oct 10 16:19:15 2003
I should really let this go but for some reason it really bothered me. A well trained and good psychologist, male or female, would be of great help in allowing this young women to explore her options in this difficult situation. Just because a female psychologist may or may not have ever been pregnant, or had an abortion, or had a bad relationship, does not make her more qualified to help this patient and may even make her less qualified to counsel this patient objectively. > ----- Original Message ----- I would tell her that babies are forever and boyfriends tend to come and go. She should visit with a psychologist(preferably female who can understand what she is going through) a few times to decide what to do, as it's her body, not the boyfriend's, and she has to make a decision that might or might not impact her emotionally for the rest of her life. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
