anxiety and breast-feedingFrom: Richard Chudacoff, MD (rchudacoff@mylinuxisp.com)Tue Sep 2 20:25:25 2003
25 yr. old gravida 0at 10 weeks estimated gestational age that takes Effexor XR for anxiety. She states that when she goes off this medicine she becomes very difficult to be around, and she wants to stay on some kind of anxiolytic medication while breast-feeding. All SSRIs, as well as BuSpar and Wellbutrin, are not recommended for breast-feeding. Does anyone have any ideas of which medication can be used safely in pregnancy for anxiety? I am planning on referring her for hypnotherapy.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
