Re: CNMsFrom: Marilyn Ringstaff (marilyn.ringstaff@OBGYN.NET)Wed Jul 9 10:08:13 2003
<< agree Joe, its been my expirence that many of the so called expert witnesses have themselves poor clinical and surgical skills, indeed many of them never really attain busy practises..>> yes and this applies to both sides of the argument, it’s been horrifying to see some of the care “experts” are willing to step up and defend. I recently heard an expert at Vanderbilt’s high/risk ob program tell a supportive audience about a case he recently defended, serious injuries from a forceps/VE delivery case. He thought it was OK to defend a case where the MD had documented 18 (eighteen) different instrumental attempts at delivery because the defendant MD testified that “he thought he felt the baby move a little.” So this made it justifiable. Now I wonder how many complaints are on file at ACOG against experts testifying for the defense?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
