RE: WHI : Hormones and Stroke RiskFrom: Myer Bornstein (mborn@massmed.org)Wed May 28 17:51:11 2003
Estrogen plus progestin therapy increased the risk for probable dementia in postmenopausal women aged 65 years or older. In addition, estrogen plus progestin therapy did not prevent mild cognitive impairment in these women. Note that the study only showed PROBABLE dementia and did not prevent mild cognitive impairment. Hasnt been shown there is a slight decrease in cognitive impairment as people age. I also agree with Dan that study has flaws. What happens when a menopausal women starts on HRT in the early fifties? I do not think all the answers are in at present, BUT the media is harping on it aging. . the call are restarting to come in to the office what should I do. As it has been stated by others on the list we will need to CYA. Myer

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
