Joanne, Had a good friend from residency who did locums for five years before deciding where he wanted to practice. He loved it and his travels took him everywhere from Hawaii to Alaska to Williston, ND. I think you have to be quite flexible in your thinking because you are dropped into systems which you have to accommodate - in other words, you are not going to change a system (i.e. policy, procedure, nursing staff, anesthesia, etc) during a locums tenure. For an opened minded, somewhat laid back individual without strong ties to a home environment, I think it would be a great lifestyle. Lynn

Has anyone here ever doen the "rent-a-doc" thing?

Did you enjoy it?

I am trying to decide whether I will continue my private practice once my son graduates from high school - and have thought (some) about doing the locums thing - get to travel etc. Thought I'd see if nay of you have done it and your reaction(s).

I have been in the position to USE the Locums service - and had to fire two of the ones we used! Others worked out great.

Thanks, Joanne

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
