Labial surgery requests

Well - I realize that I am posting this after a lay person asked the question ... but ... ther eis room for a discussion as I have had these requests!

I have had a number of teens and young women ask for this surgery. The background for one teen (7th grade!!! no less) was that she and her friends have "oral sex" parties - and she thinks she "looks different" than her peers - so doesn't want to disrobe in front of them. The general situation is multiple boys having girls give them fellatio and the reverse.

One of the girls parents was trying to deal with this and discuss it (and get her to stop) - and in a discussion with another parent - the other parent said "sure I told her she could have/do oral sex - she won't get pregnant!" This parent had said "yes" when her daughter said "san I have some friends come over" and soon there were over 50 kids on all three floors of the house and Mom was constantly up and down the stairs trying to get them to keep their clothes on!

Anyhow - I did have one young woman whose left labium minus (ok - you Latin folks - is this the right way to spell the singular?) was long enough to get caught between her underwear and spandex sprots clothing etc. I (reluctantly) agreed to "trim" it. From the post op swelling - it "stretched" almost back to the size it started at - but at least she didn't have any scarring that constricted anything.

I am convinced that (so far) the requests have been primarliy for "show and tell" scenes! So am back to my original thought - which is to not do it!

And the general feeling of many young people is "that oral sex - isn't really sex" = so can just be done casually. If this is going on in Keene (23,000 people) I am sure it is going on in other places too!

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
