That said, there are members of the OB section that have the attitude that "By God, I am an obstetrician and if I say they need to consult, that's final". On the other side of the coin, there are family practitioners who are saying, "You don't credential us, we credential ourselves and we'll decide when a consult is required". Since The sections and bylaws are well established, neither side is gonna back down - unless of course there is a consensus reached. That is the impetus for my request for other's guidelines - I am sitting down with a representative from the family practice section to see if we can come to a mutually acceptable set of guidelines. The best thing is to have a good definition of what their privileges are and then enforce that.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
