I'm a med student with a patient not sure what to do with - she is a 25 y/o healthy female who had a ruptured cyst 2 years ago, a TV-US revealed another, bigger cyst on the left ovary. At the time she was on OCP's which she was told to stay on. A repeat TV-US every 6 months showed the same cyst and same size. One radiologist reported it being 40% solid/60% cystic, but the last one just said a 3.7cm x 2.5cm non-functional cyst that appears multilobulated. We are currently thinking that it is a dermoid cyst. The patient is wary about surgery because of the risk of having to go open and about adhesions preventing future pregnancy. Can anyone comment about what they would do in this case - would they wait yet another 6 months and keep repeating the TV-US or would they just bite the bullet and go for the cystectomy? Any advice would be most appreciated.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
