Re: tention after Pereyra procedureFrom: Michael J. Wolpmann, MD (elvisdoc@comcast.net)Fri Feb 28 15:16:53 2003
I have seen overcorrections that started to void spontaneously only after 2-3 months of continuous catheterization...not mine, thankfully, or luckily, but a local urologist's patients I had done concommittant A/P repairs on. I thought a takedown would be unavoidable but lo and behold, they started voiding after a substantial amount of time which in a couple of cases was about 3 months. Of course, they now have to pee standing up while using a man's urinal......just kidding, they recovered normal voiding function. I would vote for patience and local estrogen but urethrolysis is certainly an option as well. I would bet that uroflowmetry would show outlet obstruction, so what you do with that is the question. The body may fix it for you if you wait. Let us know. good luck, Michael

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
