From The AMAFrom: Dean Huffman (dean@thehuffpeople.net)Fri Feb 21 17:16:23 2003
.. I just received this e-mail from the AMA: - - - - It's official! President Bush has signed the Omnibus Appropriations bill (H.J. 2), authorizing the Department of Health and Human Services to correct the 1998 and 1999 Medicare physician payment projection errors. The American Medical Association, working together with specialty, state and county medical societies as well as group and academic medical practices, has secured an important victory in the fight against Medicare cuts. With your support, we have averted a 4.4% cut in Medicare physician payments that was scheduled to go into effect on March 1, 2003. As a result of this legislation, physicians will instead receive a 1.6% increase in 2003 spending, and baseline spending is now projected to increase $54 billion over the next 10 years. The commitment of our members is critical to the AMA's legislative victories. Each member who speaks out on issues makes our collective voice stronger. Your calls to lawmakers, your participation in rallies, your active grassroots efforts have paid off. This victory has given the more than 40 million Americans now enrolled in the Medicare program-and the millions more who eventually will be-the good news that their access to care won't be jeopardized by an accounting error. Help us win our next fight-medical liability reform. Continue to support AMA efforts with your membership, encourage others to join, and the AMA will be stronger than ever. Today, this victory belongs to all of us-most importantly, to you and your patients. Yank D. Coble Jr., MD President American Medical Association

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
