Robert et al, our Pathologist doesn't use the Mayo Clinic for Path second opinions because they often actually have someone such as a resident or fellow do the second opinion.

He sends strange tumors to the Cleveland Clinic--some super specialist Pathologist for these.

I don't know where he would have sent a lung biopsy, though. The Armed Forces Institute of Path does a lot of second opinions for tumors, also, but they are slower, up to 6 weeks wait. I am not sure whether they look at lung biopsies. They do have a critical care unit though, so probably do some super-specialty lung path. Gail Waldby, MD Huron Clinic SD

It's strange that if this was an acute reaction that she has not responded to steroids - the pulmonologist is aware of this and thinks it may be a long shot - but heck - this whole case is very bizarre. She has made the pulmonary pathologist at Mayo aware of the history of macrobid use. We are waiting to hear what his take on this is after he reviews the lung biopsy slides.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
