Re: Iodine 131From: Braun, R. Daniel (rbraun@iupui.edu)Fri Feb 14 10:35:05 2003
The fetal thyroid doesn't start functioning until around 11 weeks. In order for the I 131 to ablate the fetal thyroid, it has to be functioning. Therefore theoretically it shouldn't be a problem. Dan -----Original Message----- From: Steve Raymond [mailto:eryl@intekom.co.za] Sent: Friday, February 14, 2003 12:24 PM To: Multiple recipients of list OB-GYN-L Subject: Iodine 131 A patient had her last period on 10th December. On 14th January she had a dose of I131 for thyrotoxicosis. Now she is almost ten weeks pregnant. Some are saying she should have a termination, others aren't convinced. The half life of I131 is five days. Anyone struck this question before. Opinions please Steve

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
