Antiphospholipid Syndrome QuestionsFrom: Cyndi Rains (cyndirains@attbi.com)Thu Feb 13 17:41:28 2003
Hello- I am not a physician, I am a pediatric nurse, but please please answer my questions!! I am 30 years old, I have had a total of 4 miscarriages. Two early m/c at 6 weeks in 2000 (blighted ovum), Then in 2001 was dx/d with APS and put on baby aspirin. Delivered a healthy baby boy in Oct 2001. :) In September 2002, m/c at 5 weeks on baby aspirin, and recently in Jan 2003 had another m/c at 6 weeks, also on baby aspirin. My ANA was previously +, but now -. My anticardiolipin was + in Sept. The rheum told me to take baby aspirin every day. So after seeing a RE in Dallas I was told that I would need heparin in addition to baby aspirin with next pregnancy. Questions: 1) What is the difference in outcomes with heparin vs LMWH? (I have heard less SE with LMWH although it is more expensive) 2) Should I ask for further testing to r/o low blocking antibodies, leukocyte antigens, or NK cells? When is predisone or IVIG indicated? 3) I was also told that I have fibromyalgia- (muscle tenderness, poor sleep patterns)-Should I be treated for this- is this somehow related to the APS/miscarriages? 4) What are the pregnancy outcomes or congential anomalies r/t baby aspirin and heparin? (my husband thinks it is too risky) Thank you in advance for your response. I am a pediatric nurse in Dallas, Texas and would like to fill our house with little ones. Look forward to your response.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
