Re: MgSO4 -- Magnesium Sulfate -- As A Tocolytic

We have almost exclusively used "Ipradol" for tocolysis (Hexoprenaline) routinely. This has only ever been thought of as a means to buy enough time to administer steroids for prevention of RDS, hence not maintained for more than 24 -36 hours. The addition of an indomethacin suppository is often advocated and may be repeated for up to 5 days on an 8 - 12 hourly basis. I personally have never been convinced that MgSO4 showed enough promise, and have never been convinced of the superiority of nifedipine over betastimulants either. Further, we never use any tocolytic after 35 weeks now. stray

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
