Re: Incarcerated gravid uterusFrom: Brian Hackman (brianhackman@easynet.co.uk)Sun Oct 27 01:35:21 2002
I have just reread William Hunter's vivid description of an incarcerated gravid uterus. Hunter was not the first person to recognise this condition but perhaps the first to describe it in detail. It seems to have been more common in his day than it is now. Looking back, I can only remember encountering it two or three times and on each occasion it responded to conservative treatment. Has anyone a different experience or had to treat it by manipulation or laparotomy? Brian Hackman PS Hunter had his portrait painted by Sir Joshua Reynolds with the postmortem specimen of the case he described lying on the table in front of him. No political correctness then. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
