Not so very different from here. Depends on the institution, of course. Kaisers do a little better, as the CNMs there are paid as hourly workers, not salaried. Private practices have individual differences, with salaries ranging from below that to well above that. But almost all of these are salaried "OB hours," not hourly wages. Call time and long office days usually put "full time" way over 40 hours/week. Benefits vary widely among these practices. Academic positions (such as mine) are well benefitted and have some lovely advantages, but do not compete money-wise with the wealthier private practices.

The hourly wages of nurses here put them in the range you state above and they work straight time, with paid overtime and shift differentials. They generally have real sick time that they can take when they don't feel well. Midwives work like other OB providers - all the time unless they're ready to keel over, and even then they sometimes have to be dragged out because they feel so guilty about the waiting room full of patients waiting to see them or because they fear their colleagues will feel "dumped on" if they have to pick up the slack. And nurses generally have good benefits because of the strong nursing unions here. CNMs are not organized and tend to work because they love what they do. It's easy for them to let themselves be taken advantage of, as they want so much to work and are willing to accept some pretty crummy deals because of their commitment to what they feel is their calling.

A big difference between Georgia salaries and San Francisco salaries is what you can get for your $70-75K. The cost of living here is very, very high. Home prices are pretty astronomical.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
