I would hold such information in strict confidence from the parent. I would inform the mother as well as the daughter that any information given to me would not be shared with anyone else, including a parent. I would refer them to a family counselor to deal with issues of trust and disclosure. I would suggest to the daughter that she might want to confide in her mother and allow her to be a friend and ally. I would first ask the girl about any issues of physical, sexual, or emotional abuse in her home.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
