Mom wants to know if daughter is virgin?From: C.Moi,M.D (moi@yahoo.com)Wed Oct 16 02:47:34 2002
I had an awkward experience where a mom brought in her 14 year old for me to check & determine if she's still a virgin, the kid denied sexual activity(in front of mother)and declined birth control telling me later(in private)that she had sex "once", she won't do it again and asked me not to tell the mother.I did not tell the mother, but I did not lie to her either. What would you do in such a situation? do we have a moral obligation to the parents? or to the patients privacy(young as they are). P.S This is taking place in USA

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
