Diane 35 Vs. Other BCP's

Greetings,

Is Diane 35 any more risky or dangerous, in terms of negative side effects (liver damage, hair shedding and etc.) than other BCPs such as Ortho-Tri-Cyclin or Novum 777? Do I need to be tested monthly while on this drug? It's not as strong and risky as accutane, is it?

I hear great things about Diane 35 from most women who have used it and I want to take it for my acne of 16 years (I'm 26). I even took accutane, but my acne returned after a year. I've also tried Aldactone with no success. I do have hair on my chin and I'm pretty sure my acne is hormone related.

I would greatly appreciate your answer to the questions above.

Thank You,

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
