Most of the time we send the patients out with a prescription for Rhogam and ask them To contact their insurance company about where to get it. That way we're out of the loop. On one occasion I remember the insurer flatly refused to pay and we sent the patient To the hospital for observation to rule out pre-term labor. I ordered a rhogam injection For her and never heard another word about it. I guess the hospital got left holding the bag But OTOH they're a much larger corporation than I have.

You mean you can get paid for it?

Richard Chudacoff, MD

I stopped long time ago buying Rhogam, I send now the patient to hospital ER with order: Test Blood Rh and give Rhogam. I was also before naive enough to buy Depot Provera and than charged for it, it is loosing business, I give now patient the prescription to go to drug store and bring it in office. It cost the insurances more, but the pharmacists obviously know how to get paid.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
