Re: IncisionFrom: Dr. John Provatopoulos B.Sc. M.D.C.M. F.R.S.C. (johnprov@sympatico.ca)Sun Jul 28 07:13:08 2002
If the patient has no preference then I will use a new pfanenstiel rathier than an old midline. I will do most hyst, ovarian cysts, etc with a pfanenstiel. If the mass extends above the umbilicus I will consider using a midline. On a few very rare cases I have had to use a maylard or modify to maylard from pfanenstiel. Where I trained almost all oncology cases where done with pfanenstiels, Midline vertical incsions where only used for highly suspicious ovarian cancer cases. Two thumbs up for the bocwalter retractor, especially helpfully for the big ladies and probablly even more greatly appreciated by the assistant.

Take care, John

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
