I'm not aware of evidence to support that progesterone deficiency is in fact the cause. How can you separate progesterone level from granulosa cell abnormality, FSH deficiency, poor follicular blood flow, or abnormal oocytes. I think these latter are all associated with a low progesterone level, and giving progesterone will not fix any of those issues.

Giving topical progesterone is worthless plain and simple. There are very large amounts of 5 alpha reductase in the skin which will metabolize up to 98% of any P administered topically. But they will feel good, since the 5 alpha reduced progesterone will bind to the Cl ion channel receptor, the same place valium binds.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
