Excellent point. It's the rare patient who has 4 years of medical school and some years of specialty training. How in the world is she supposed to be up to speed with her gynecologist?!?

There is almost never the type of "informed" consent they dream of in theory.

It's almost never too much better than: "Well, we're gonna cut you open and try to fix this problem. You COULD get infected, or bleed to death, or maybe be sterile. But probably not. Wanna do it anyway?"

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
