Vegas malpracticeFrom: Harrison Sheld (hsheld@anv.net)Sat Mar 9 10:22:43 2002
This morning's Las Vegas paper tells us that the day has been saved because the docs are working up a plan to self-insure. While we are apt to criticize national organizations that represent our interests as Ob-Gyns at least, here we have the local medical society seeking $8G per doc to start a self-insurance program acknowledging that when and if it gets off the ground many docs will not be able to afford the premiums...and they won't be coming down for at least a year. This was a perfect opportunity to seek some modest tort reform, e.g., caps on pain and suffering and loser pays. Instead docs have seen fit to underwrite the plaintiff's bar. Was it Pogo who said, "We have seen the enemy and they is us?" Seems applicable here.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
